Alvin Tan, Melvin Chee, Jackson Tan and William
Chan met in Lasalle-SIA College of the Arts and came together in 1994 to form
:Phunk Studio, a creative collective in Singapore. Described by UK's best
selling design magazine, Creative Review as "The Champion of Singapore's Graphic
Scene". They have propagated a visual signature that seamlessly blends their
diverse influences into a singular creative thought that never fails to revive
itself in the ever-fleeting world of art, design and culture. Their cross-disciplinary
approach is best described as "an aesthetic collective consciousness" focused
on experimenting with new approaches to visual expressions.
:Phunk has collaborated and worked with international brands such as Nike,
Nokia, MTV, Daimler Chrysler, Diesel, Levis, Tiger Beer and Salem.
Their self-published multi-media project titled “Transmission” was distributed
worldwide, showcasing the works of :Phunk and their collaborators from around
the world. They have exhibited and lectured in New York, London, Sydney, Berlin,
Valencia, Barcelona, Dublin, Shanghai, Beijing, Taipei, Kuala Lumpur and the
Singapore History Museum. :Phunk has been featured in numerous international
books and magazines such as Creative Review, I.D. (International Design),
Tokion, XLR8R, Studio Voice, +81, Mass Appeal, Computer Arts, Black + White
and etc. :Phunk has garnered numerous international design awards.
