20/20 Movement Takes Off
In London
DesignSingapore Council will debut at the upcoming
London Design Festival from 22nd to 24th September 2006. This special edition
of 20/20, titled ‘20/20 Movement-Singapore Design Tour’, is curated by Black
Design, and will showcase works of twenty top local creative talents from
various design disciplines and media.
Designers like Argentum, Fling, Hansel, Kwodrent, SBTG and Woods & Woods,
Japan-based fashion photographer, Leslie Kee, and Hong Kong-based make-up
artist, Zing, will lead the fashion pack. Another strong force in this international
presentation are the works of Visual Communication and Graphic designers like
Fleecircus, H55, Kinetic Design, Phunk Studio, WORK and comics illustrator,
Sonny Liew. Product designers like Air Division, Jienshu, Play Imaginative,
Stikfas and Sumajin will display a range of furniture, toys, homewares and
accessories. WOHA Designs will have an architectural showcase of their award-winning
works.
The concept will reflect Singapore’s design scene, which is constantly evolving,
pushing boundaries and breaking new grounds. It hopes to take audiences on
a design journey ‘mentally’ rather than ‘physically’ on two Routemaster buses
(the classic red ‘London’ buses), which will be stationed at the hip and groovy
East End christened, ‘A Creative Depot’. The exhibition will run for three
days in Elys Yard at the Old Truman Brewery, where the pulse of the festival
will beamidst uber chic art and design galleries; bistro bars and restaurants.
Apart from the creative showcase of ground-breaking and award-winning works,
what makes 20/20 truly unique is a peer review system where each of the current
twenty designers will get to nominate the next group of up-and-coming designers.
This is an on-going documentation of Singapore creativity and reveals the
collective consciousness and spirit of our time.
