Reseeding Design Thinking -- a pilot program for schools

Introductory Exercise

v 1.7

The 2-session introductory exercises are for teachers, their designer collaborators and mentors to be
a) familiar with the objectives and methods of the project, and
b) introduced to the use of software and digital presentation techniques.

Separate lessons would be conducted for students as part of their exploratory exercises.

Programme for Introductory Exercise

Stage A: Seeing As

v 1.7

Student groups are presented with several natural and man-made objects and places. Using digital photography initially and video later, students explore and compare different ways of seeing these objects and places. They are introduced to perceptual techniques such as visual transformations, rhythm, patterns, light & colour, material, geometry, movement & kinematics (in simple terms, of course).

See "When" for programme.

Stage B: Expressed As

v 1.7

In this pivotal stage, student groups work with their professional designers as collaborators to abstract out of their Stage A material, extended expressions of interesting issues and compositions. These can be in the form of still or video montages.

See "When" for programme.

Stage C: Formed As

v 1.7

The final stage is driven primarily by the designers, with the active participation of their student collaborators. The designers take the “expressions” from Stage B and interpret them into sketch designs. These designs may be presented as morphs or parametric variations from the expressions.

See "When" for programme.
