Capability Development Programme (CDP)
The Capability Development Programme (CDP) seeks to raise Singapore’s level of design excellence and global competitiveness by providing funding support for short-term training for design students and designers.
The CDP consists of an Overseas Development Grant and a Professional Development Grant.

The Overseas Development Grant aims to enhance the international exposure, experience and networking of Singaporean design students and designers through overseas internships, attachments, workshops, school exchanges and other relevant programmes.

The Professional Development Grant aims to develop the professional skills, design knowledge and capabilities, and management expertise of Singaporean designers through in-house training conducted by local/overseas renowned/established designers/professional trainers. Training topics must be design-related (e.g the latest developments, capabilities, technologies, thinking and concepts, and entrepreneurship in design and design management).

Who is eligible?
Overseas Development Grant
Design students and designers must meet the following criteria:

Singapore citizen or permanent resident

Pursuing a design-related course at a recognised tertiary institutionor practicing designer

Prior invitation to, prior admission into, or currently applying for admission into a credible programme
Professional Development Grant
Companies must meet the following criteria:
- Incorporated in Singapore
- Have a significant number of design staff
- At least 75% of design staff are Singapore citizens or permanent residents
- Have invited, or is currently inviting, a renowned/established designer/professional trainer to conduct in-house training for their design staff

What is covered by the grant?
Overseas Development Grant
50% of the following costs, capped at S$15,000 per year, per individual (i.e. designer/design student):

Official fees payable for programme/participation (Costs not covered are exchange-programme school fees that would have already been charged under the original cost of the course of study)

Economy-class return air ticket
-
Overseas airport transfer
-
4-star or below overseas accommodation
-
Overseas subsistence allowances based on prevailing government guidelines
Professional Development Grant
50% of the following cost, capped at S$25,000 per year, per company:
- Venue and other organising expenses (where necessary)
- Instructor’s/trainer’s professional fees
- Overseas-based instructor’s/trainer’s subsistence allowances based on prevailing government guidelines
- Overseas-based instructor’s/trainer’s economy-class return air ticket
- Overseas-based instructor’s/trainer’s airport transfers
- Overseas-based instructor’s/trainer’s 4-star or below accommodation in Singapore

What is the application process?
Applications and supporting documents must be submitted at least two months prior to the commencement of the training programme.
