DesignSingapore Scholarship
The DesignSingapore Scholarship aims to groom budding design talents who have the creativity, drive and passion for design that will help develop Singapore into Asia's leading hub for design excellence.
It is open to students and industry professionals who are planning to pursue a full-time undergraduate or postgraduate design-related degree in a reputable local or overseas institution.

Who is eligible?
Students and industry professionals must meet the following criteria:
- Singapore citizen or permanent resident
- Completed National Service (for male applicants)
- Prior acceptance into a full-time undergraduate or postgraduate course (in an appropriate field) in a reputable local or overseas institution

What are the areas of study considered?
The design-related degree must be a full-time undergraduate or postgraduate programme at a reputable local or overseas institution. The areas of study that will be considered are:
- Architecture
- Design Management
- Fashion Design
- Industrial Design
- Interior Design
- Landscape Design
- Multimedia Design
- Visual Communications
- Urban Design

What is covered by the Scholarship?
Local Scholarship
Covers tuition fees up to S$10,000 per year and will be capped at S$20,000 for the entire Scholarship
Overseas Scholarship
Covers tuition fees up to S$40,000 per year and will be capped at S$100,000 for the entire Scholarship

What is the commitment required?
Once you have accepted the Scholarship, you will become a DesignSingapore Associate and will be required to contribute to DesignSingapore Council's projects.
Local Scholarship

Upon graduation, no service commitment is required

Your Associateship will expire one year upon your graduation from the degree course
Overseas Scholarship

Upon graduation, there will be a two-year service commitment to Singapore. You must work for two years in a design-related field in Singapore.

However you do not have to start working immediately in Singapore upon graduation. But you must complete the two-year service commitment within five years of your graduation.

Your Associateship will expire upon completion of your two-year service commitment.

What is the application process?
There are two parts to the scholarship application process: submit an online application at the Creative Industries Scholarship website followed by a manual submission of your portfolio together with the following supporting documents:
- Printed copy of the submitted online application form
- Certified true copy of relevant academic records and/or transcripts (including GCE 'O'Level results)
- Copy of letter of admission into proposed course of study and institution
- Printed copy of information on proposed course of study (if any)
- Printed copy of 1,000-word essay on personal interest in design

Printed copy of curriculum vitae and/or record of activities (including participation in exhibitions, competitions, design activities and awards received)

Letters of recommendation from two referees (referees must not be immediate relatives of the applicant). Referees are requested to enclose the letter of recommendation in an envelope, seal and sign across the envelope seal before passing the sealed letter to the applicant for submission

Printed copy of applicant's portfolio and/or samples of applicant's works (development sketches and/or up to five best works)

Applicants should contact Ms Charlotte Chin at charlotte_chin@mica.gov.sg or Ms Jessie Er at jessie_er@mica.gov.sg to arrange for the submission of materials for the application. Please retain a copy of your application for personal reference. All submitted materials will be retained by the DesignSingapore Council unless otherwise stated.
Please submit your portfolio and relevant documents in either an A4 or A3-size file. Format may be larger if required. All submissions should be bound and labelled properly with name and NRIC number. Please refrain from using labels and notes that come off easily.
Re-Application
Applicants who were unsuccessful in their previous scholarship application may access the website to update their applications. Applicants should go to 'Forget Password' to get a new password if they do not remember their previous setting.
Application Period
Applications for the 2012 Scholarship is open now till 15 March 2012.
Selection Process
Shortlisted applicants will be invited to attend up to two rounds of selection interviews. Successful applicants will be informed of the award subsequently. All successful applicants are required to attend a Scholarship Award Ceremony.
The DesignSingapore Council reserves the right not to disclose the reasons for approving or rejecting any application and to reject any incomplete application.
