New Director for the DesignSingapore Council

Mr Jeffrey Ho Kiat was appointed the new Director of the DesignSingapore Council, the national agency for the promotion and development of Singapore design, on 1 December 2009. He took over from the previous Director, Dr Milton Tan, who will resume his Associate Professorship in the Department of Architecture at the National University of Singapore from 1 January 2010.

President S R Nathan presented Singapore’s most prestigious design award to four outstanding designers and seven ground-breaking designs at the President’s Design Award Ceremony held at The Istana. The Award honours the significant achievements and contributions of the city-state’s design talents and is awarded to designers and designs that have challenged conventions with innovation and enhanced the lives of the community.

10TouchPoints Design Initiative Brings Innovative Recycling Bins to Singapore Changi Airport

10TouchPoints, the nationwide programme by DesignSingapore Council to improve everyday living through better design, brings 32 new recycling bins to the four terminals at Singapore Changi Airport. Singapore design firm, Chemistry, was commissioned to build customised recycling bins after winning the inaugural 10TouchPoints Design Competition in 2007.
