Multi disciplinary architectural firm SCDA Architects recently won three prestigious international awards. In June 2012, the Singapore-based firm was awarded the RIBA International Award from the Royal Institute of British Architects for the residential building One KL. The award, presented to buildings anywhere outside the UK recognises the world’s most imaginative, dramatic and green buildings.
The firm was also recognised by the 2012 Green GOOD DESIGN Awards by the Chicago Athenaeum for two other projects, the Park Hyatt Maldives and Alila Villas Soori. The award identifies the world’s most pioneering examples of sustainable design.
Since its inception, SCDA Architects has been receiving accolades for their design work both locally and regionally.
For example, principal design director Chan Soo Khian was awarded Singapore Designer of the Year in the inaugural President’s Design Award in 2006 (link). This award ceremony administered by the DesignSingapore Council and Urban Redevelopment Authority is the highest accolade for designers in Singapore.
The DesignSingapore Council has also featured SCDA Architects in exhibitions at various design events around the world, like the 20/20 Exhibition at the London Design Festival 2006, World Expo 2005 and Singapore Design Festival 2005. About SCDA Architects SCDA Architects (link) is a multi disciplinary architectural practice established in 1995. The office currently employs a staff of 55, comprising of architects, interior designers and landscape architects. It has a holistic approach to architecture that includes full interior design, landscape and planning services. The practice has extensive experience with private residences, resort hotels, apartments and commercial buildings and is working on projects both locally and regionally. About Chan Soo Khian Chan Soo Khian (link) is a practicing architect based in Singapore. He is the founding principal design director of SCDA Architects Pte Ltd which he established in 1995. He obtained his Master of Architecture degree at Yale University in 1987 and is a registered architect in Singapore and the United States.
He was the recipient for the inaugural President’s Design Award, Singapore Designer of the Year 2006 and was the recipient of the SIA-Getz Architecture Prize for Emergent Architecture Asia, 2006. The practice was one of the Design Vanguard firms for 2003 selected by Architectural Record in December 2003 issue. Soo Chan was awarded the Royal Institute of British Architects Worldwide Award for the Lincoln Modern in 2005 and was highly commended at the ar+d 2002 World Emerging Architecture Award for the House in Malacca.
