Singapore design industry survey
Two recent surveys commissioned by the DesignSingapore Council of the Ministry of Information, Communications and the Arts (MICA) reveal that while Singapore has only a moderate level of awareness of design, the attitude and interest towards design are high.
Singapore launches Design Festival 2005
The first international design festival to be held in Singapore will bring zeal, passion and energy from local and international designers through more than 100 events between 9 and 23 November 2005. The festival will comprise conventions, trade exhibitions, country presentations, curated exhibitions, workshops, open houses, product launches, product placements, awards ceremonies and parties.
President's Design Award
new President’s Design Award to recognise and honour Singapore’s best designers and designs, was announced by Dr Lee Boon Yang, Minister for Information, Communications and the Arts on 2 September 2005. The President will be the Patron of this national design award, which will be awarded on an annual basis.
DesignSingapore awards first design scholarships
On 2 August 2005, DesignSingapore Council of the Ministry of Information, Communication and the Arts awarded its first scholarships to seven talented designers at the Awards Ceremony held at the Library@Orchard, Singapore. The DesignSingapore Scholarship is Singapore's first design scholarship - open to Singapore designers keen on pursuing fulltime studies in various design disciplines.
DesignSingapore Studio with Toshiyuki Kita
In this project initiated by DesignSingapore Council, four leading Singapore companies have embarked on a year-long project to collaborate with top-notch Japanese product designer Mr Toshiyuki Kita, who is an international advisor to the DesignSingapore Council. The Singapore companies are toy designer STIKFAS, furniture company HTL, electronics company ENZER and Aspial-Lee Hwa Jewellery.
