Inspired by the late Dr. Milton Tan, Founding Executive Director of DesignSingapore Council, join us for a series of two talks that explore where ideas come from, and how we can build creative cities and culture. Internationally-renowned design practitioners and local next-gen emerging designers will share their knowledge and perspectives, and exchange ideas and challenges experienced across generations and design disciplines.

1. Where Do Ideas Come From? Past, Present, Future - 22 October 2020, 11AM - 12.30PM

In his 2010 TEDxSingapore talk, the late Dr. Milton Tan spoke about 3 ways we can get ideas: Hunt, Fish, and Farm. How did we do this before? What new powers and possibilities do we have today? Have we lost anything? How will we hunt, fish and farm ideas in the near future? On a bigger scale, how do cities and societies farm for ideas? How can Singapore farm more ideas?

Speakers:

  • Eames Demetrios, Grandson of design legends Charles and Ray Eames, Geographer-at-Large, and TED and TEDxSingapore speaker
  • Mark Wee, Executive Director of DesignSingapore Council
  • Ryan Tan, Founder of OuterEdit
  • Tiffany Loy, textile artist
  • Dave Lim, Founding Curator of TEDxSingapore 2009-19 (Host)

2. How Do We Build Idea and Creative Cities? - 29 October 2020, 4.30PM - 6PM

In his 2010 TEDxSingapore talk, the late Dr. Milton Tan spoke about his passion and purpose to create an idea and creative city and culture -  incorporating this vision and actions into the pioneering plans for DesignSingapore Council. Join us for a fascinating and important conversation as we unpack our ideas and inspirations. What is an ‘Idea and Creative City’? What happens in such a city? What are your Ideas Worth Doing to build one?
