In Singapore, the month of August means National Day, and we're taking the opportunity to appreciate all things local and the wonderful creative talent we have! This month's NDC events theme is Singapore: Our Home, and will run from August to September. Discover how design plays a part in shaping Singapore into a loveable city, transforming local businesses and inspiring our designers to be creative and culturally relevant. 



#designspottingsg – by Designers in Singapore 

Inspiration begins at home, and we’re proud of it! We're launching a new monthly series #designspottingsg, where we invite you to discover design inspirations in everyday Singapore through videos presented by participating designers. We can't wait to experience a different slice of Singapore through their eyes! Watch the episodes on Dsg’s Facebook or Instagram page. Here are the designers that will be featured:

Designing for Inclusivity – Safeguarding Culture and Heritage

As we celebrate our independence, come find out more about Singapore’s intangible cultural heritage in this talk by Mr Yeo Kirk Siang, Director of the Heritage Research and Assessment, National Heritage Board, and from local traditional craft practitioners. National Vending Gallery: Topic No. 1 Cardboard

Venue: Design Gallery 2, Level 2, National Design Centre

The National Vending Gallery features 18 locally-designed card and board games assembled for its maiden topic: No.1 CARDBOARD. Through a designer’s ingenuity, cardboard is transformed from a meek paper-like material to imaginative gameplays fit for social interactions and experiential learning. Local Design: Board Games

Do you love board games? Did you know we have a bustling local board game design scene? This webinar is an accompaniment to the National Vending Gallery exhibition. Join us as we explore the different aspects of board game design! Speakers include Ms Yasmine Khater (Bye Bye Virus), Mr Xeo Lye (Capital Gains Studio) and Ms Lilian Lee (Say What?). More details.



Designing for Inclusivity - Digital Technologies to Empower Everyday Living
Date/Time: 10 September 2020, 4pm - 5.15pm

Inclusive design leverages digital technology to improve lives by making products and processes accessible and safe for everyone. Join us to find out about conversational and educational technologies that address gaps within our society. This session is suitable for interested designers and product managers, and organisations that are keen to connect with technology partners and understand the potential of inclusive technologies. What will the future of our cities look like? Join speaker Dr Belinda Yuen (Lee Kuan Yew Centre for Innovative Cities, Singapore University of Technology and Design) as she explores topics like a housing audit checklist tool to start thinking about ageing in place and a 'Peter Pan’ home, as well as design opportunities in a silver economy.
