Call for Expression of Interest for the Business of Design programme

Mar 5, 2019

Local designers and businesses have created many products that blend tasteful aesthetics with a practical purpose.

Are you a design entrepreneur running an established furniture or lifestyle product design studio and have a dream to go global? Then you may want to find out more about the new Business of Design (BOD) programme that the DesignSingapore Council (Dsg) officially launched on 4th March 2019!

The Council is on the lookout for up to six established Singapore-based furniture and lifestyle product design studios with strong business fundamentals and ability to scale up to meet international demand; studios must also have a compelling and differentiated brand philosophy and aspire towards creating good design that impacts positively on the environment, culture, society and/or economy.

The aim of the BOD programme is to grow the Singapore Design Brand while generating new business opportunities for the selected design studios. This is the first run of the programme, which will commence in March 2019; it will focus on the furniture and lifestyle product sector first before expanding the call to designers from other sectors that have international growth potential.

The Council hopes to grow the export value of Singapore designs by building mindshare in both business-to-business and business-to-consumer markets in Asia. The BOD programme will match designers with experienced in-market consultants who will mentor them and help open the doors to the global market; it will support designers in engaging in-market Public Relations agents to build brand assets and gain media exposure; it will also provide access to international platforms to showcase their works.

So if you think you have what the Council is looking for, email us, pronto!

Interested applicants must download and read through the Business of Design Call for Expression of Interest 2019 Information Kit for detailed information on the programme and the selection criteria.

Please express your interest via email to by Friday, 22 March (5pm). Shortlisted designers will be informed through email by Thursday, 15 April (5pm). Shortlisted designers will proceed to a final selection by the appointed in-market consultants.
