Wallpaper*, in partnership with the DesignSingapore Council, announces Handmade On Tour 2018.
Held at Gillman Barracks, Singapore’s contemporary arts cluster, and opening to the public on 12 June, the Handmade On Tour 2018 exhibition is part of an ongoing collaboration between Wallpaper*, the global authority on design, and the DesignSingapore Council (Dsg).
The exhibition is a distilled collection of 22 one-off wonders from Handmade 2018, Wallpaper* magazine’s ambitious annual project dedicated to the marriage of craftsmanship and design. The collection arrives in Singapore – its first and only stop – fresh from its debut at the Milan Design Week.
The theme for the Wallpaper* Handmade exhibition was Wellness & Wonder, with design talent from all over the world taking visitors on a quest for mental and corporeal wellbeing. The Milan audience saw objects that accessorised the cult
of self-improvement, exercised the cerebellum, replenished the body, jet-washed the life force and restored the innate harmony of the self.
‘The DesignSingapore Council is delighted to welcome Handmade On Tour for the second year. This is a rare chance for design lovers from Singapore and the region to appreciate these highly bespoke and well-crafted objects up close. As a Unesco Creative City of Design, we are committed to developing a strong design ecosystem; this includes bringing the best designs to our shores to inspire our next-generation designers and
also to raise the level of design appreciation in Singapore,’ says Mark Wee, Executive Director, DesignSingapore Council.
Handmade On Tour 2018 will include seven pieces created by Singapore -based talent, Studio Juju, Stolen, Theseus Chan, Olivia Lee, Gabriel Tan Studio, WOHAbeing and Edmund Zhang, who will be unveiling his new lamp made in collaboration with Italian manufacturer Slamp exclusively for Handmade On Tour.
‘Wallpaper* is proud to host Singapore-based talent in what has already proved a great addition to our nine-year-strong Handmade brand,’ says Wallpaper* Brand & Content Director Tony Chambers. ‘We are showcasing the city-state’s dynamic and creative spirit via these innovative and unique pieces and telling the world that Singaporean design is a force to be reckoned with.
Now embarking on its tenth year, Handmade is Wallpaper’s most proudly ambitious annual project – the creation of
a groundbreaking exhibition and a special edition of the magazine, dedicated to the marriage of craftsmanship and design through the essence of customisation. Acting as patron and creative director, Wallpaper* cherry-picks a selection
of some of the world’s finest artists, craftsmen, makers and manufacturers, commissioning unique and one-off luxury items of furniture, fittings, food stuffs, fashions and much more. wallpaper.com
International, intelligent and influential, Wallpaper* is the world’s most important design and lifestyle magazine.
