 DesignSingapore Council Scholarship

Singapore, 30 January, 2018 - The DesignSingapore Council (Dsg) today announced a Dsg scholarship framework that will provide designers a stronger and more holistic programme to support their careers.

The new scholarship framework offers career planning, mentorship, internship, and networking opportunities. Dsg will facilitate job placements for returning scholars in companies with design and innovation capabilities, not necessarily limited to the design sector. Financial support has also been increased to cover living, travel and pre-studies allowances. Scholarship holders will also be part of Dsg’s ‘DesignSingapore Associates’ network, where they will contribute more actively to Singapore’s design scene.

“Designers today are rather sought after in all types of industries. We see a trend of designers using their unique skills of empathy and creativity to drive innovation in healthcare, finance, management consulting, and public sector. We are looking for people with the ambition to make this a better world through design, but most importantly, with a heart to serve Singapore.” said Ms. Agnes Kwek, Executive Director, Dsg.

The Dsg Scholarship is open to students and industry professionals looking to pursue full-time undergraduate or postgraduate design-related degree(s) in a reputable local or overseas institution. Studies can be in design fields such as architecture, interior design, visual communication or graphic design, fashion, or product and industrial design.  The Council is also interested in candidates who wish to pursue studies in emerging disciplines such as service design, design management and strategy, and digital design.

Established in 2005, the scholarship has since been awarded to fifty design talents who have produced outstanding work and have contributed to the growth of the sector. Many of them have also won local and international accolades. Past scholarship recipients include: Hans Tan, who was awarded Design of the year in 2012 and 2015 for the prestigious President’s Design Award; and Yong Jieyu, director and co-founder of STUCK Design, a multi-disciplinary design studio.

Applications may be submitted online at and the application period is open from 6 February till 2 April 2018. A briefing session will be held for interested applicants on 27 February 2018. During the Singapore Design Week, potential applicants can also look forward to a clinic run by the Design Associates Network to provide feedback and advice on how to improve their portfolios.
